Ever straight rip a dowel on the table saw? That was an interesting process. This slot in the dowel will allow paper to be wedged in when it’s first being fed through the scroll mechanism. Shout out to @cindy.d1 for the idea. Her brain is bigge

Bigger holes for the bearings. This will house a turning mechanism the dowel will lock into. Hopefully it will allow users to refresh the paper in the scroll by turning it with a hand crank or wooden finial of some sort.

Enough staring at the wood. Time to cut. Lining up these sockets for the dowel that will hold the scrolls. Maple is a tough SOB.

Got these fairly inexpensive bearings off Amazon. They fit perfectly over this 1” dowel I have in the shop. I think this will work towards smooth long term operation of the scroll set up in building.

Back in the shop again after a nice break. Prototyping the mechanism for this vertical scroll stand. Need to support the paper without inhibiting the smooth turning of the housed dowel. Yup. It hurts my head too.
