Inspiration strikes like lightning.

The word Kidlat translated from Tagalog means “Lightning”. Similar to this natural phenomena, the act of creation can spring almost suddenly from a single spark of inspiration: a thought, a word, an accident, a feeling. If you take this spark and nurture it, the result can become as powerful as a bolt of energy that descends from the heavens. That is the essence of Kidlat Woodworks, bringing life to the epiphany inside of us.

In 2017, Lakandiwa de Leon decided to make a cutting board for his mom as a Mother’s day gift and that moment sparked a curiosity for woodworking that has continued to grow and flourish. Self-taught, his work combines elements of Danish, Japanese, Mid-Century Modern, and Minimalist styles. He also strives to incorporate Filipino motifs and symbols into his original designs.

Another central focus for Lakandiwa is the process. He keeps in constant contact with clients from the initial design to the final finish, in order to involve them as much as possible in the eventual product. In this way the custom work is an organic creative collaboration that has a great story. Follow the Process on Instagram at Kidlat Woodworks.
